Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine whether gluteal taping on the affected side improved gait parameter during walking for persons following stroke. Eights subjects who had suffered a stroke months to years previously resulting in mild to moderate gait impairments participated in the study. Their gait was measured under four conditions: 1) without taping, 2) circumference on gluteal muscle, 3) transverse side on gluteal muscle, 4) circumference on gluteal muscle using non-elastic taping, in random order. Gait parameter was assessed with the 2D analysis. Gait parameter increased with the gluteal taping for waking speed and stride length at gait cycle of walk compared to circumference on gluteal muscle using non-elastic taping and without taping. Also, for stance phase on the unaffected side increased with circumference on gluteal muscle taping and double support phase on the affected side increased significantly with transverse side on gluteal muscle taping compared with among the conditions. Gluteal taping may be a useful adjunct to current rehabilitation gait training strategies.
